Career Planning

Experiential Components

Gaining actual work experience is one of the most important elements in career planning and development. The experiential aspects for student can include internships, part time jobs, seasonal employment, undergraduate research, work-study, or any combination of these. These experiences help students identify and choose suitable careers based on how well the career path fits their personal characteristics.

Internships are available through the Career Center and through some academic departments. The Career Center Library maintains a section of books regarding internships and other experiential education. Online internship listings are available through SCOTjobs, as are part-time and summer jobs, campus work-study opportunities, and undergraduate research opportunities.
