Graduate Students

Non-Academic Employment

Increasingly, graduate students are migrating to non-academic fields of endeavor. Many students find that opportunities for personal and professional growth present them with challenges that they had not considered upon entrance to graduate studies. Likewise, many companies, governmental agencies, and Non-governmental organizations are finding that graduate training imbues prospective employees with rich research, analytical, and communication skills. While performing a non-academic search requires patience and rethinking one's skill set, it is often rewarding and creates opportunities that do not exist in the academic world.

Listed below are several links to help you get started on your job search. We have also included a number of biographies of PhD students who sought employment in a non-academic setting after completing their studies. We hope that their stories will inspire you and give you a few "tips" about where to begin.
