Career counseling provides assistance in self-exploration, deciding what major fits you, what careers suit you, and how to investigate the job market. It involves talking to a career counselor and, occasionally, taking interest and personality tests .
 Students who are undecided, confused, or bewildered are excellent candidates for career counseling. Common issues for students coming to career counseling include:
- Is postdoc or a permanent job most suitable after graduation?
- Must my first job meet all of my long-term goals.
- How do I balance school and career goals as first year student?
- How do my research interests define my career path?
- Do I seek an academic job or one in industry?
- How do I develop better interviewing and networking skills?
Often, students simply need to be assured that their approach to career development is sensible. The Career Center uses a developmental approach that adjusts counseling to the experience and background of each student.
The Career Center offers counseling appointments for all of these and other career-related issues. Some may be handled during our drop-in hours, which occur daily from 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:30pm to 4:30pm. These 10 minute appointments are to address easy issues. Requests must be made in person the same day. No appointments can be made by phone or email.
