Student On-Campus Employment Program

The Career Center and Human Resources have joined forces in the development of the new Student On-Campus Employment Program (SOCEP)! The new Student On-Campus Employment Program (SOCEP) is a student employment program with an objective to increase on-campus student employment for those students not necessarily eligible for work-study. The goals of the program are to:

provide students the opportunity to gain valuable UC work experience while earning necessary income, in an effort to mitigate increased higher education costs
provide departments with the opportunity to utilize the skills and abilities of UCR students, strengthen students’ employment potential upon graduation, and reduce temporary staffing costs

Office – General

Assistant I, Title Code 4922

Working under close supervision, provide general office support such as: greet visitors; file, type, and scan documents; enter data into spreadsheets/data applications; answer phones and assist callers; organize and sort documents; assist with mail; assist with calendar scheduling and meeting arrangements.

Minimum Requirements: Customer service skills, ability to follow instructions to complete assignments, ability to work in coordination with others, and attention to detail. Typing skills preferred.

Suggested hiring salary range:

$8.00 - $10.50 per hour

Assistant II, Title Code 4921

Working under general supervision, provide office support such as: greet visitors; file, type, and scan documents; update or maintain spreadsheets/data applications, run reports, assist with researching questions; answer phones and assist callers; process mail; assist with calendar scheduling and meeting arrangements; and assist with special projects.

Library Services

Assistant I, Title Code 4922

Working under close supervision, file, retrieve, and copy materials; sort mail; answer telephone and provide caller assistance; perform routine record keeping; package, label, and shelve books; and perform routine circulation desk duties.

Minimum Requirements: No prior experience required. Be available to work evenings and weekends. Typing skills preferred.

Assistant II, Title Code 4921

Working under general supervision, serve as a lead for student employees working in the Assistant I role. Coordinate the work and provide guidance to student employees performing routine administrative duties involving document and mail handling, phones, customer service, shelving, and circulation desk duties.

Minimum Requirements: Prior related experience required. Be available to work evenings and weekends. Typing skills preferred.

Transportation and Parking Services

Assistant I, Title Code 4922

Working under close supervision, assist visitors at campus Information Kiosks, serve as event parking attendants, assist with street and lot security, and serve as traffic control guides.

Minimum Requirements: Availability to work evenings and weekends, valid drivers’ license, UCR student age 18 and older.

Suggested hiring salary range:

$8.00 per hour

Upon completion of training as Assistant I, students qualify for consideration to advance to Assistant II, Title Code 4921, at $8.50 per hour.

Assistant II, Title Code 4921

Working under general supervision, assist visitors at campus Information Kiosks, serve as event parking attendants, assist with street and lot security, and serve as traffic control guides.

Minimum Requirements: Successful completion of training as Assistant I. Be available to work evenings and weekends. Have a valid drivers’ license. Be a UCR student age 18 and older.

Sciences – General Laboratory

Assistant I, Title Code 4922

Working under close supervision, assist in the general support of a laboratory. Perform general laboratory duties such as washing glassware or equipment, cleaning work areas, preparing and mixing solutions, stocking standard laboratory supplies, sorting and labeling supplies, and basic recordkeeping.

Minimum Requirements: Knowledge of and experience in general carpentry and power tool operation, ability to move stage sets and equipment, ability to climb ladders and work on catwalks, ability to follow instructions to complete assignments, and availability to work evenings and weekends.

Computers/IT

Assistant II, Title Code 4921

Help Desk Technician

Working under general supervision and in a team environment, provide IT support for service requests for PC hardware, software, printer and mobile devices. Install computer hardware and software, troubleshoot computer related problems, assist users, and perform minor repairs.

Minimum Requirements: Customer service skills, ability to work independently under prescribed guidelines and in coordination with others, knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, basic knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, and strong troubleshooting skills.

Assistant II, Title Code 4921

Multimedia Operator Student Assistant

Working under general supervision and in a team environment, assist with delivering and operating audiovisual equipment, computers, and networked controllers. Perform scheduled delivery and setup of classroom technology and presentation systems, including support of classroom computers. Perform routine checks, replacement of consumable parts, cleaning, and basic calibration operations to ensure that equipment performs properly. Audiovisual equipment includes computers, LCD Projectors, 16mm film projectors, audio and video recorders/players, document cameras, and sound amplification systems.

Minimum Requirements: Customer service skills, ability to move and transport audiovisual equipment, good oral and written communication skills, ability to work independently under prescribed guidelines and in coordination with others, PC experience, and valid driver’s license for use of department vehicle.
