Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Resume Book? How will it be used?
A Resume Books is an active job search tool that helps job seekers circulate resumes to employers. Including your resume in a Resume Book allows employers to view it and contact you directly. Only pre-screened employers who sign up with the Career Center will be given access to Resume Books. Resume books may also be part of marketing campaigns to attract marquee employers to campus. (Back to FAQ's.)

I’ve already submitted my resumes for OCI jobs or to a career fair. Is this the same thing?

No.  Resume Books are another opportunity to reach employers, some of whom are not interviewing on campus or attending career fairs. (Back to FAQ's.)

I have multiple resumes. Which resume should I submit?

You can choose to use one of the resumes that you’ve already uploaded into your SCOTJobs account, or add a new one.

Submit the the resume that most effectively represents you for inclusion in a particular Resume Book.  (See the Q&A below.)  However, only submit a resume to a Resume Book if you are interested and available for employment in the immediate future. (Back to FAQ's.)

Can I submit a resume to a book that is not in my major field?

Yes.  Be sure, however, that you genuinely interested in a career in that field.

For instance, suppose you are an English major with internships in marketing and advertising.  Your resume for the "Business Opt-In Book"  should highlight your internships and your objective statement should clearly indicate that you are seeking a marketing position for the Business Book.  Your resume for the Education Book would highlight your desire to teach and a resume for the Humanities Book might emphasize your creative writing skills.

Business majors qualified for computer science or IT careers might want to submit their resumes to the Engineering and Technical Book, if especially qualified for computer science or IT careers.  Engineering students made wish to make their resumes available to companies seeking process engineers, quality assurance personnel, IT staff, etc, by including their resumes in the Business Book.

In any case, include a clearly stated objective and/or relevant coursework to support your special career interest. (Back to FAQ's.)

I found a job after I submitted my resume to a Resume Book. Can I withdraw my resume from the Resume Book?

Yes, you can withdraw your resume from future versions of a Resume Book.

From the Opt-in Resume Book tab in the Documents section of SCOTLink, identify the resume you wish to remove from the book and click the Select Resume Book.

Un-check the box next to the Resume Book name and click Submit. The Resume Book name should no longer appear in the Opt-in Resume Book column next to that resume. (Back to FAQ's.)
